Q+A with Elisa

Q: What is your favorite color?
A: It's very hard to choose because I LOVE most colors.  Except purple. I don't like purple.  But turquoise blue (the color of pool water) and bright pink are my favorites.

Q: Which Harry Potter house would you be in?
A: Hufflepuff.  I really, really want to be a Gryffindor, but I always come out as a Hufflepuff.

Q: Do you have any pets?
A: Yes. I have two dogs and a rabbit friend named Pumpkin Spice Latte who hops around and often chases the dogs. Pumpkin is a sassy bunny.

Q : What is your favorite animal?
A: I have too many to name, but I will say squirrels and deer are awesome, and I think my spirit animal is a black bear.

Q: Do you have kids?
I have three amazing kids. One of them is in college and the other two are in high school.

Q: Do you like your job?
A: Oh yes. In fact, like isn't a strong enough word. I LOVE my job. I absolutely love it. I cannot imagine any job being as fun, challenging, and interesting. I feel very lucky to be able to do this work.

What is therapy? What do you do in therapy?

We work together to figure out what isn't working, and how to change it.

You don't want to feel bad.  No one does.  It's not your choice, and it's not your fault.

But, you can learn to feel better.  The trick (there's always a trick) is to understand why you feel the way you feel.  Once we know this, we can use strategies that scientists discovered, to help you learn to manage your thoughts and feelings.

Therapy isn't easy.  It isn't always fun (but sometimes it is!).  It is honest.  It is real, and it is all about you and helping you to feel better about yourself, others, and the world around you.

Sometimes that means learning about a specific type of emotion- like anxiety or sadness- and sometimes that means…
